Today, school boards and school administrations have much more on their plate than just educating students and supervising employees. Various federal and state laws have been enacted which impose new obligations on public schools. It is important that public school administrators be familiar with and have proper guidance on such laws such as: the Pennsylvania Telecommunications Law, State Ethics Act, federal copyright laws – particularly in the Internet age, mandate waivers, federal and state laws regarding student records – to include notification of rights to parents, and Pennsylvania’s Right To Know Law (public records law). SSKW attorneys take the time to become knowledgeable in these new areas of law as they emerge, and we proactively educate our clients so that they can avoid legal problems in these areas, rather than responding after a problem has occurred. Prevention saves time and money.
