Today, there are almost as many “personnel issues” concerning students as there are for employees of public schools. We are available to advise you regarding student personnel issues such as: student discipline, student residency disputes, child custody disputes, access to and release of student records, emancipation, free-speech questions – especially in connection with religious issues, dress codes, drug and alcohol testing of students and searches of lockers, vehicles and personal belongings. Each of these areas, if not handled correctly, can lead to liability on the part of schools and employees. We have found that a proactive approach to these matters, through a combination of in-services and timely inquiries to us, can greatly minimize the possible adverse consequences of missteps.
