The Four Duties in Special Education for School Districts The numerous responsibilities and obligations placed upon school districts in programming for special education students under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and state and federal regulations can be broken down into four general areas: (1) identification; (2) evaluation; (3) program; and (4) placement. This presentation, which can be geared towards administrators or teaching staff, identifies the basic obligations within each of the four duties, and discusses how your school district can meet these legal requirements. In addition, your administrators and/or teaching staff will be provided with examples of "best practices" in ensuring compliance the myriad of complex and confusing state and federal regulations.
