Child Find Requirements

Child find obligations, the first of the four general duties of school district in programming for special education students, oftentimes proves to be the most troubling and problematic duty.  The failure to identify the potential need of a student for special education services despite a clear indication of those needs could result in considerable liability to your district.  This presentation provides an in-depth explanation of questions such as How to I go about "finding" students potentially in need of special education?  What students am I responsible for "finding"? What are signs or red flags that a student may be in need of special education?  Once I "find" a student, what do I do next?  All of these questions and more are answered in this presentation focusing on the first, and often most important, duty of a school district.
