Kathleen Metcalfe, who focuses her practice on Special Education Law and Pupil Personnel Issues, came to the firm from her work as counsel for the School District of Philadelphia representing the district in special education matters. Working in such a vast and complex environment has given her a special talent for counselling large, urban school districts on the private practice side.
From answering general day-to-day questions to representing school districts in administrative due process hearings and federal litigation, she strives to provide clients with thoughtful and responsive representation. Additionally, she is often called upon to give presentations to teachers and administrators on any of a variety of topics which include special education, confidentiality, child find, legally-defensive IEPs, Section 504 service plans, disability, sexual harassment, school safety, bullying, child abuse, and discipline.
Prior to her work with the School District of Philadelphia, she served as an Assistant Defender for the Defender Association of Philadelphia, where she tried hundreds of criminal cases, and also spent extensive time in the courtroom as a Child Advocate Attorney in the Philadelphia Family Court system.
