New Britain, PA – Two attorneys from Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams LLP are featured speakers at the PA Special Education Leadership Symposium on Monday, September 11, 2023. Andrea Lynne Cola and Tammy J. Schmitt will present “The Current State of Special Education Law” jointly in a one hour session at 10:00 AM, addressing regulations, case law and current issues affecting special education.

The symposium is hosted by the Council of Administrators of Special Education, a professional organization fostering learning, policy, and advocacy of special education issues, and eLuma, an online educational and therapy services provider. Running from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, the event promises a “deep dive” into the latest operational and legal developments for teachers, administrators, and professionals working in special education.

Cola focuses her work on matters involving civil rights, special education, and student services. Her professional background includes working as an attorney for the School District of Philadelphia in its Special Education Unit, and on behalf of children and families for the Defender Association of Philadelphia.

Schmitt brings nearly two decades of experience from both sides of the negotiation table, having represented families of students with educational disabilities in claims against school entities, and experience litigating special education matters involving civil rights, and employment discrimination on behalf of school and public entities.

The event takes place at the Phoenix Ballroom in Upper Chichester, PA and is free, but space is limited. More information can be found here.
